The most recent Linux version of DAKOTA is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3. It should also run on other Linux distributions that maintain binary compatibility with RHEL, such as CentOS. Users of other Linux distributions and (non-Mac).nix OSes may find it necessary to build DAKOTA from source. The Mac binaries are built on OS X 10.5.8.

What is HexEdit?

HexEdit is a hexdump viewer and editor that works similarly to the hex editor provided with Apple's ResEdit. It allows you to edit either the data fork or the resource fork of a file. HexEdit offers a find command, a goto address command and supports drag and drop, automatically opening files in 'Auto' mode.

HexEdit can edit very large files (they don't need to fit into memory). At it's current memory setting of 600k, it should be able to handle files of up to 230 megs. If you need to edit a larger file (!), increase it's memory partition. Note that when HexEdit saves a file, it will (temporarily) need twice the disc space of the original file, plus a little extra for storing the changes you have made.

Gameplay basics for Hexadrift. This guide is a general overview of the game and gameplay.

The objective of Hexadrift is to repair and install all of the broken parts of your crashed ship, The Euclidean.

Getting Started

In the beginning, you will need to bank as many Credits (green hexes) as you can. This will cover your fuel costs and keep you scanning Sectors. Keep a close eye on your fuel usage during a Sector run and try not to use the Extraction option until later in the game.

You might want to immediately start repairing parts, but you’ll quickly realize that they require a lot of resources to repair. In order to bank this many resources, you will need to apply as many of the available Upgrades as you can. Again, put your focus on collecting Credits and Fuel.

Mid-game

Once you’ve gotten a few of the upgrades that give you extra resources and credits when scanned, you’ll start really banking a lot of resources. It is recommended to unlock all upgrades and sectors before you start focusing on repairing the parts. Having everything unlocked and available to access will give you a pretty clear path to completion.

The end-game will come pretty quickly if you’ve taken the time to apply all of the Upgrades. Once you’ve repaired all of the parts, install them on The Euclidean and the game is over! You win!

Basic Controls

Use AWSD to navigate around the Sector maps. You can also click-drag the map.

There are 9 different resources to collect. Electrical, Elemental, Biohazards, Hydro, Scrap, Mechanical, Lubricants, Artifacts and Credits. You will need a lot of each in order to unlock all upgrades and repair all parts.

Sectors

Mac

There are 11 unique Sectors to explore and plunder. Each Sector has 3 of the 9 different resources. Credits and Fuel are always found in every Sector. Unlock each Sector by paying for them with Credits, then plunder as many resources from each as you can. You will likely need to visit all of the Sectors in order to beat the game.

Enemies

Hexadrift Mac Os Catalina

Every Sector has some level of Enemy threat. Enemies will be alerted once you start scanning for resources and continually chase you until you exit the Sector. When an enemy attacks, you will lose some of the resources you’ve collected in this Sector run. If you have no collected resources, they will start stealing your fuel! Don’t let this happen, fuel is precious and expensive!

Enemies are fast, but if you are quick you can get by them through corridors and sometimes outrun them entirely.

Repair all of the broken parts and install each on The Euclidean. When the last part is installed, congratulations, the game is won!

Resetting

You can reset your game to initial values at any time. This resets all collected resources, unlocked sectors and upgrades and resets all broken parts.
